What Two Lies saves, why it is needed, and how to manage your data.
Your room and name
To run the game, we store your chosen name and icon, the room participants, game actions and edited claims. Other participants see your name, icon and claims revealed during play. A room lasts 24 hours from creation. After that, access closes and its data is removed by automatic cleanup.
Card history
Your browser stores a random anonymous ID for card history. The server associates cards you have seen with that ID so they do not repeat in later games. This is a separate ID: it is not used as your analytics identifier and does not contain a name or email address.
Solo play
Your solo session, its five dealt cards and your answers are stored on the server for one hour. Access then expires; expired sessions are removed during later solo starts. Shown cards remain in anonymous history with no automatic expiry so they are not dealt to you in rooms again. Clearing your browser removes your ID on the device; it does not retroactively remove this server history.
Viewer voting
A hash of the card-history ID enforces one vote per browser per round. The server stores that hash, the selected claim and a temporary active-viewer record; a vote cannot be changed. Activity renews every 30 seconds, and a place becomes available after 60 seconds without renewal. Viewer and vote records are deleted with the room during cleanup after its 24-hour lifetime. Your stream score and confirmed answers stay locally in your browser; clearing site data removes them.
Game statistics
We collect statistics about actions and errors without names to understand where the game fails, such as whether players can join a room and finish a circle. Events do not store IP addresses, names, claim text, voice or visited page addresses. They include random browser and session identifiers, time, country, language and broad device and referral categories. These identifiers link actions together; they are not intended to identify you by name. Analytics is stored in our database on Cloudflare; automatic cleanup removes events older than 400 days.
How long the analytics ID lasts
In the EU, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway, the UK and Switzerland, the analytics ID is kept only in the current tab’s sessionStorage; no persistent analytics ID is created. Reloading keeps the session, and restoring a tab depends on your browser. Elsewhere, a random ID is stored in your browser for up to 13 months. Card-history IDs and browser preferences work separately.
Turning statistics off
Click “Statistics: on” at the bottom of the home page to change it to “Statistics: off”. You can also open the link below to save that preference in this browser. A Global Privacy Control signal turns analytics off by default unless you explicitly enable it. Turning analytics off does not stop you playing or remove events already sent.
Turn analytics off and return to the gameVoice chat
Built-in voice travels directly between players (peer-to-peer). When a direct connection is unavailable, it may pass through a Cloudflare TURN relay. We do not record ordinary voice chat. A separate, optional playtest mode can record a conversation only after participants consent: the recording stays locally in the organizer’s browser and can be exported by them. Other participants may also make their own recordings outside the game.
Hosting and page loading
The site, database and relay run on Cloudflare. Cloudflare processes technical network information to deliver and protect connections; keeping IP addresses out of our analytics does not mean an IP address is unused during a connection. Fonts are served from our own site.
Children
This service is not intended for children under 13.
Deleting and managing data
Clear this site’s data in your browser settings to remove IDs, preferences, drafts and recordings stored on your device. You will lose access to your previous place in a room, and your card history will start again. This does not retroactively delete server history or analytics already sent. Rooms expire after 24 hours and are cleaned up automatically. Clearing browser data also resets your analytics choice, so turn it off again if needed.
